Math
- we went over the Percent pratice word problems from last week
- Students wrote a quiz on solving problems involving percentages.
- Students practiced converting between decimals, fractions and percents.
- Students practiced ordering and comparing decimal, fraction and percent numbers.
Science
- we followed in the footsteps of Alfred Wegner, examining evidence used to construct the supercontinent Pangea with paper cutouts of the continents.
- we used Oreo cookies in a lab to demonstrate the three different plate boundaries - divergent, convergent, and transform.
Plate Tectonics Explained
We continued this Thursday with RTI, focusing on skill development in reading comprehension for Literacy and place value and decimals in Numeracy. Ask your student about this amazing learning opportunity.

Jan 13-17
Math
- surveying the class for activities they did over the holidays, we practiced how to express these amounts as fractions, decimals, percents, and ratios.
- students created a foldable to help them remember how to change numbers between fractions, decimals and percents.
Science
- we started our unit on Planet Earth this week.
- we surveyed the textbook to discover which topics will be investigated in this unit.
- To learn about the Earth's layers, we read the introduction of the book "Dancing Elephants and Floating Continents". Ask your student what a Canadian Elephant is.
- We watched a video about the Earth's layers.
- Using the textbook, students constructed a diagram of the layers of the Earth - Due on Tuesday. Look for this assignment in Powerschool next week.
On Friday, students were regrouped into small instructional groups called RTI, to target the skills outlined below. Ask your student about this amazing learning opportunity.
