Science:
- continue learning about the Scientific Method with Mythbusters
- students learned about a Cree teaching called aoksisowaato'p - or" sit spot". Ask your student about this experience.

Students created drawings like the one in this video, measuring, creating and identifying parallel, perpendicular line segments, and an angle bisector for the shadow in the drawing.

We have a field trip planned for Sept 4 to the Agrium at Stampede Park, to learn about sustainable farming practices in a program called Journey 2050. There is no cost to this trip. If you are able to volunteer, please contact me at mammatheson@cbe.ab.ca or 403-777-7800 ext 3020.

 Please sent back completed risk forms with your students as soon as you are able.

Math:
- practice drawing parallel and perpendicular lines using rulers, compases, and protractors
- practice measuring precisely and labeling (communication) in math

Science:
- identifying parts of the scientific method using an episode of Mythbusters - "Bubble Pack Plunge"

Math:  Deep understanding is better than speed in math
- students worked in pairs on a paper folding activity and made convincing arguments that they had folded a square piece of paper in specific ways.
- students refined their understanding of the concepts of area, shapes (specifically a square) and fractional amounts.

Science: Observation & Inference Assessment

My name is Mrs. Matheson and I am pleased to be your Math & Science Teacher this year!! I am entering my 16th year of teaching in the Calgary Board of Education and my 3rd year at Ernest Morrow School. I am a proud born and raised Calgarian and have a passion for teaching and learning. 

I am looking forward to working with your child while creating a positive and exciting learning environment. Students will be challenged in a variety of situations this year and will work towards improving their skill level in all subjects. Both students and parents are encouraged to check my blog regularly in order to stay up to date as to what is happening in class. I believe that open lines of communication are important to your child having a successful year.
